This course is the first of a three-part series of courses designed to increase knowledge about Earth surface processes for both traditional K-12 teachers and alternative educators. It is focused on soils, streams and slopes and the processes that impact human lives. In this course, knowledge about the curriculum content will be increased through a series of lectures and quizzes. This course is open-access; it is available to all at no cost. Participants can earn a digital badge and Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) credits by completing all three courses in the series.

This course is an online, asynchronous course delivered via ATO webpage using TechSmith recordings and quizzes. The course will be open and freely available after the initial opening date.

Jean Dixon

Jean Dixon is an associate professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Montana State University and a specialist in the field of earth surface processes and change. Her research and teaching focus on the movement of soils and sediments at the Earth's surface and topics related to sustainability and natural hazards.

Robyn Gotz

Robyn Gotz is an instructor for Montana State University's Department of Earth Sciences and Master of Science in Science Education (MSSE) Program. She has a background in earth sciences, geoscience education, and online education and engagement.

The workshop is designed for educators across diverse backgrounds, including those at the K-12 level, instructors at nonprofit organizations, staff and administrators of after-school and outdoor programs, and other educators who seek to increase their knowledge and pedagogical skills surrounding Earth surface processes.

Optional Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) credits are available for participants who complete all three courses.
