The Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule (RRP) course is an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) / US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) certification course designed for all workers that disturb painted surfaces in housing and child-occupied facilities built prior to 1978 including: renovation contractors, maintenance workers in multi-family housing, painters, and other specialty trades. Under the rule, child-occupied facilities are defined as residential, public or commercial buildings where children under age six are present on a regular basis.
The RRP course is intended for students who have no prior knowledge of lead-based paint, but the certification is required regardless of experience. Students learn how to assess and work with lead-based paint hazards in a way that is safe and constructive for themselves and others. To maintain their certification students must complete a 4-hour Refresher course every 5 years.
The Refresher Certification course has 4 contact hours and can qualify as 2 CEU toward HEP Recertification. Certified RRP Contractors must complete a refresher course within 5 years of initial certification to maintain their standing with EPA.
Montana Weatherization Network members may take this course at no cost. Receive a full discount with code MWTC20. For questions, contact the Training Center at , classes@weatherization.org or 406-586-0070.
