Douglas W. Smith, senior wildlife biologist for Yellowstone National Park, will recount the story of 25 years of wolf reintroduction and recovery in Yellowstone National Park and beyond. He will discuss population dynamics, predator prey relationships, disease and genetics, behavior, and the impacts of wolf reintroduction on the greater Yellowstone ecosystem.

Douglas Smith
Douglas W. Smith is a senior wildlife biologist in Yellowstone National Park where he supervises the wolf, bird and elk programs. He was originally hired by the National Park Service to serve as the project leader for the Yellowstone Wolf Project which reintroduced and restored wolves to Yellowstone National Park. While working toward his bachelor's in wildlife biology at the University of Idaho, he was involved with studies of wolves and moose on Isle Royale in Michigan. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in ecology, evolution and conservation biology from the University of Nevada, Reno. He has published a wide variety of journal articles and book chapters on beavers, wolves and birds. He also co-authored three popular books on wolves, including "The Wolves of Yellowstone," "Wolves on the Hunt" and "Decade of the Wolf," which won the 2005 Montana book award. He gives interviews and presentations about wolves to audiences across the globe.
