As the first congregational rabbi to ever serve in a state legislature, Ed Stafman wanted to understand the role of the values, spiritual, and religious divide underlying the political divide. Rabbi Ed will explore how changing values, especially spiritual and religious values, have changed our politics. We'll look at the long history of rights versus responsibilities and the impact of our ever-evolving understanding of "rights."
Topics to be covered include:
The historic and current roles of rights versus responsibilities in society
How the line between rights and religion has become blurred, as the two have merged
How the decline of some religions and the ascension of others have contributed to the political divide
How the blurring of rights and religion has influenced Montana politics
