This course can also serve as a review to prepare participants for the Building Performance Institute's (BPI) written and field exams for certification as an Energy Auditor. Learn more about Home Energy Professional certification. As a BPI Test Center, the Montana Weatherization Training Center proctors both exams for additional fees. These exams can be arranged by request.
- Candidates must be approved by BPI to challenge the EA online and field exams. The exam costs $325 and $650, respectively (this fee is covered for Montana Weatherization Assistance Personnel contact Montana Weatherization Training Center for more information).
- Online exam: 100 multiple choice questions; Time Limit: 2 hours; Passing Score: 70%
Montana Weatherization Network members may take this course at no cost. Use the MT WAP Registration option to register with a $0 fee.

Aaron Mugaas
Aaron brings deep and relevant experience to the team, with decades of service to the weatherization industry as both a crew member and auditor. He’s also spent time in private industry as a house builder and home inspector. Aaron’s training includes degrees in Biology, and study in Land Resources and Environmental Sciences. His focus at the Training Center is on health and safety, building science, hands-on training of practical skills.Nick Thomas
Growing up in the Gallatin Valley has offered Nick years of demolition, renovation and building experience as well as a keen knowledge of different building structures and ways of protecting homes from harsh Montana climates. He brings several years of weatherization field experience to the Training Center after working for the HRDC energy assistance program.
