Description
This course explores Jane Austen and her works, for novice readers and longtime fans alike, addressing her enduring popularity with the general public, scholars and movie-going audiences. The course will provide background about England and the places in Britain associated with Austen. It will then examine highlights of her novels, with attention to Austen's genius, wit, characters, and significant contributions to the rise of the English novel. Finally, the course will examine Austen's landscapes (in her life and her novels), her staying power, her legendary fan base, and Jane Austen in film.

Marvin Lansverk
Marvin Lansverk is a professor of Eighteenth-Century British literature at Montana State University. An award-winning teacher (a 2020 Montana University System Regents Teaching Scholar), he specializes in the rise of the English novel and the Christian mystic poet William Blake. He has been teaching at MSU for 33 years (but who's counting), with interests in literary history and theory. He can be seen playing his trumpet on his roof, with MSU's One O'clock Band, Bridger Mountain Big Band and Woodsmoke Jazz. During his sabbatical in 2021-22, he worked on a book project on Jane Austen comprised of some of the material for this course.| Date | Day | Time | Location |
