Description
Week 1 of this course will cover general tree biology, including evergreen and deciduous trees, growth, wood, bark, changing leaf color and tree products. In the second week, we'll explore forests, including stands, old growth, relationships between trees and animals, birds and insects, tree reproduction, diseases and fire. Week 3 delves into the "Wood Wide Web," which is communication among trees, other plants, chemicals and fungi. Finally, during Week 4, we'll journey through Montana forests from the dry pine to the wet cedar forests, from low elevation to subalpine.

Sharon Eversman
Sharon Eversman taught biology, general botany and plant anatomy in the Department of Ecology at MSU for nearly 40 years. Her primary research interest was in lichens. She worked in the national forests of Montana, from the southeastern Ponderosa pine to the northwestern cedar forests, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, and forests in other states. She holds an M.S. degree in plant ecology from MSU and a Ph.D. from Arizona State University.Date | Day | Time | Location |
