Description

Explore the songs and times of the great stage and screen songwriters. Using clips from Broadway, film and television, we will share their life stories, hits and misses, and some gossip (all in good fun) and appreciate their genius. We will discuss composers such as Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein.

Our students will learn to appreciate one of America's true art forms, the movie musical.

Sam and Candy Caponegro

Sam and Candy Caponegro are passionate about American musicals. They met in a musical and have acted, co-directed and taught theater courses for over 40 years. Their base is the OLLI at Rutgers University, but they have lectured at libraries, senior centers and universities throughout the United States, and even on Princess Cruise ships! Their motto is: If music be the food of life, let's gorge ourselves.
