Operator Basics: Ground Water Systems is focused on basic hydrology, water quality, and issues related to ground water dependent community systems. This course contains 5.5 hours of reading content and 5.5 hours of video-viewing content for a total of 11 hours.

The course provides water operators with a basic knowledge of public water supply systems. Operators will understand the definition of a public water supply system and know the basic criteria by which such systems are classified. They will understand what is required of operators and/or managers of public water supply systems in order to keep their skills up-to-date and ensure that public health is protected.

Key Concepts:
1) Understand the purpose of public water supply systems,
2) Identify types of public water supply systems, and
3) Gain basic knowledge about operator certification and continuing education.

The Operator Basics series contains three complete courses (and a Water Exploration showcase): Ground Water Systems, Surface and Ground Water Systems, and Wastewater and Lagoon Systems. Ground Water Systems is an update of the Ground Water Systems module of the Operator Basics course that was initially released by the Montana Water Center in 2005 with funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The content has been reviewed and updated to match current standards and regulations. The content from the original courses has also been repackaged so it can been accessed using current technology.

Operator Basics: Ground Water Systems is brought to you by the Montana Water Center in partnership with Academic Technology and Outreach at Montana State University. The course was developed with funding from the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR), a National Science Foundation-supported effort that has grown science and technology infrastructure in Montana since 1980.
