The Energy Auditor course provides in-depth information on energy audit terminology, principles and skills for calculating cost effective building shell retrofit strategies and generating work orders. The course follows the Department for Energy's standardized curriculum for Energy Auditor - Single Family and has been modified to align with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) Job Task Analysis for an Energy Auditor. The structure of the course includes lecture, discussion and practical experience through hands-on skill sets.
This course can also serve as a review to prepare participants for the Building Performance Institute's (BPI) written and field exams for certification as an Energy Auditor. Learn more about Home Energy Professional certification. As a BPI Test Center, the Montana Weatherization Training Center proctors both exams for additional fees. These exams can be arranged by request.
Candidates must be approved by BPI to challenge the EA online and field exams. The exam costs $325 and $650, respectively (this fee is covered for Montana Weatherization Assistance Personnel. Contact Montana Weatherization Training Center for more information).
Online exam: 100 multiple choice questions; Time Limit: 2 hours; Passing Score: 70%

He's spent the last 40 years developing best practices for the housing industry, including publishing respected textbooks and technical curricula, developing training programs, and operating private construction organizations. Chris holds certifications from the Building Performance Institute as a Building Analyst, Heating Professional, Envelope Professional, and Healthy Home Evaluator. He's certified to proctor exams for all these specialties. Chris is the co-author of "Residential Energy: Cost Savings and Comfort for Existing Buildings," the "Homeowner's Handbook to Energy Efficiency," and other respected titles on sustainable design and energy-efficient construction. This course has 22.5 contact hours and can qualify as 22.5 continuing education units (CEUs) toward Home Energy Professional Certification through the Building Performance Institute (BPI).
