Who were the first peoples to come to the Americas? Nancy Mahoney, an archaeology instructor at MSU, will present the latest research regarding the peopling of the Americas. The course will examine exciting new discoveries of recent archaeological and genetic evidence, balanced with the knowledge and perspective of Native American scholars. Particular attention will be given to the Anzick Boy remains, one of the oldest pre-Clovis burials in North America, which was first unearthed in the 1960s in the Shields Valley, just a few miles northwest of Bozeman.

Nancy Mahoney
Nancy Mahoney holds a B.A. from Emory University and a M.A. from George Washington University, both in anthropological archaeology, and is currently a doctoral candidate in American studies at Montana State University. Over the past 25 years, she has conducted fieldwork in Morocco, Cyprus, Turkey, Arizona, Utah and Montana. She teaches world prehistory, human evolution and cultural theory in her courses at MSU.
