Description
Citizen Science is not just science: it is the process whereby any citizen can contribute observations and data to larger - sometimes global - initiatives. We will describe how to get started in citizen science and find projects that match your interests and hobbies. We will showcase several citizen science projects covering topics beyond science, such as art, health and history, and demonstrate projects that work well for grandparents and grandkids. Some projects use photos or data from a smartphone. If you bring your phone, we can help you download apps and get signed up for projects (this is not required).
Program Takeaways
- Describe what citizen science is and how everyday people can take part.
- Showcase some example citizen science projects (including several that are not science per se) and how they benefit participants and the larger community.
- Show how to search for and sign up for citizen science projects.
- Demonstrate several citizen science projects in live time and guide participants through signing up if they wish.
