Description

Enjoy this beautiful film by Bozeman cinematographers Wes Overvold and Erika Share. Learn about the ethnic Hyolmo people of northern Nepal and how Tsering's Fund is using education to prevent the trafficking and early marriage of young girls in the region. Executive Producer Peter Schmieding will be present for questions and a conversation after the screening. The film also documents the Tsering's Fund's work to sponsor local boarding school education to break the cycle of poverty and exploitation that has plagued girls from this region for centuries.

Course Takeaways

Participants will learn about the culture of the Hyolmo people of the remote Helambu Region of Nepal. In a personal way, attendees will learn how a sponsored education can change the lives of young girls and prevent trafficking in Helambu and throughout Nepal. The history of the Melamchi Ghyang School and how it has transformed the region will also be discussed.

Peter Schmieding

Peter Schmieding is a practicing dentist in Ennis with 42 years of experience. He is also the president of Tsering's Fund, a Montana-based non-profit. For 20 years, Tsering's Fund has worked to protect young girls in Nepal from early marriage or outright trafficking by sponsoring them in English boarding schools. His work is focused on the Helambu Region of northern Nepal.
