Description

Join us for a walking tour of MSU's utility tunnel system and central heating plant and learn about campus building and geothermal systems. Participants will also learn about MSU's conservation efforts to protect resources and save money. Park and meet at the Plew Building at S 6th Ave and W Grant St.

Space is limited to 15 people per tour. Registration is required.

Please note

This tour involves standing and walking, both outside on sidewalks and in the underground tunnels at MSU. There will be stairs, low ceilings, and small doors. Please wear clothing that can get dirty, and enclosed shoes without any hanging laces that can get caught in grates. Layers are recommended; the tunnels will be warm, but there is a 5 minute walk to your vehicle once exiting the tunnels.

Duke Elliott

Duke Elliott is a resource conservation specialist at Montana State University and an instructor in the College of Arts and Architecture. He has over 35 years of experience in building science, energy efficiency, solar and renewable energy, and leadership. He served as a consultant to utility companies and state governments. He also owned a solar electric business and established state-of-the-art weatherization and home energy training centers across the United States. This work included developing hands-on educational tools used in 13 states and coordinating the development of over 5000 pages of building science curriculum. He created a new standard of home construction and a market-based approach to effect lasting change in the building industry.
