Description

In this hands-on workshop, we'll work together to understand how generative AI works, practice using generative AI tools, learn the basics of prompt engineering and discuss what this emerging technology can do. We will experiment and learn together as we work through sample prompts and best practices for using generative computing systems like ChatGPT, Bard and Claude. Please bring your own laptop to participate in the hands-on exercises. No prior knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs) is required, but an eagerness to experiment and explore is encouraged!

Jason Clark

Jason Clark, professor and head of Research Optimization, Analytics and Data Services at the MSU Library, brings expertise and research in AI architectures and AI literacy. In his work and research, Jason has focused on software development, metadata and data modeling, Web services and application programming interfaces (APIs), machine learning and interface design. More recently, he has started to explore algorithmic literacy and how machine bots and artificial intelligence (AI) create types of user experiences and knowledge patterns. As an educator and MUS Teaching Scholar, Jason strives to craft teaching experiences that consider how technology has social impacts and how practical learning opportunities for implementing technology can be realized. In these learning sessions, he will share his expertise on generative AI and related technologies with an eye toward practical applications of this emerging technology.
