Description
Have you noticed how screens have replaced meaningful written and face-to-face conversations? This course explores the lost art of communication, trends that have changed society, and the resulting implications for caregivers, educators and community volunteers. We will consider contemporary language-communication issues that impact all of us and explore how to regain effective communication practices and revitalize social connections, one conversation at a time. Our inquiry will examine young children's natural curiosity that can serve as a model for re-engaging tots, tweens and teens in meaningful communication-in ways that put screens on the back burner. Participants can expect lively discussions about something we care deeply about: connecting to each other in authentic ways.
Course Takeaways
Participants will consider the complexity of overlapping factors that have resulted in a cultural epidemic where communication is seemingly a lost art. We will see how children's natural curiosity can be a model for re-engaging tweens and teens in meaningful communication.
