Description
This course will begin with "Breaking Bad," calcium metabolism and osteoporosis. In the second week, "Addison v. Cushing," we will study how the adrenal gland functions and various problems when things go wrong. The third week is titled "Risky Business," which will delve into metabolically driven cardiovascular factors. In the last week, we will examine sexual development, "Are You a Boy or Are You a Girl?" by The Barbarians.
The previous course is not required to fully participate and enjoy "The Endocrine System and YOU: Part 2."

- The control of calcium in the body and how the bones become osteoporotic.
- How is the adrenal gland controlled, and how do its hormones affect health and disease?
- How do we develop hypertension and hyperlipidemia, their risks and how are they treated?
- How gonadal hormones work in the fetal and postnatal life of people.

David Bybee
David Bybee is an internist and endocrinologist with more than 50 years of medical experience as a researcher, teacher, clinician and advocate. His training, in addition to that required for certification as an internist, includes a fellowship in endocrinology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and a post-doctoral fellowship in neuroendocrinology at Michael Reece Hospital and Medical Center, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL. He has been on the faculty of the University of Kentucky Medical School, Lexington, KY; the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD; Northwestern University, Chicago, IL; and the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, KY.
