Description
Montana is home to hundreds of native bee species found throughout our diverse ecosystems and landscapes. They provide essential pollination services to agriculture, home gardens, and native plant biodiversity. Habitat loss and pesticide use are major factors impacting pollinators, and creating pollinator-friendly landscapes is a critical component of conserving them. This presentation will focus on the diversity of Montana's native bees and the conservation practices we can integrate into our landscapes to help safeguard pollinators in Montana.
Program Takeaways
- Montana is home to countless pollinators, including 600-750 native bee species, which play an essential role in agriculture and native plant biodiversity.
- Pollinator conservation strategies in home gardens involve creating habitat (including flowers and nesting sites) for these critical pollinators.
- Reducing the use of pesticides and incorporating other effective pest management strategies can help protect pollinators and other beneficial organisms in our landscapes.
