SHAPE MT OVERVIEW
The Society of Health And Physical Educators (SHAPE MT) is a professional organization of educators dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles among all Montanans through the promotion of health education, physical education, lifetime fitness and recreational activities, and dance. The mission of SHAPE MT is to provide advocacy to its members; provide a venue for presentation of research; provide information on grant opportunities; and provide professional development through conventions and workshops to its members.
CONFERENCE OVERVIEW
The SHAPE Mt conference meets each summer at different venues around the state. This year it is being held in Helena, Montana at Capitol High School. K-12 health enhancement teachers, coaches and K-8 elementary classroom teachers are encouraged to attend. Sessions are from 8am-4pm on July 29-30. This year SHAPE MT is also providing pre-conference.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The participant will:
1. Attend 10 total sessions by presenters from national, regional and state levels to learn best teaching practices for health enhancement.
2. Gain an understanding of how to implement current Comprehensive Health and Physical Education practices for the state of Montana schools.
3. Improve and strengthen health enhancement curricula in the specific content areas of fitness, sports, games, health, dance and physical activity.
4. Connect national and state standards (health and physical education) to authentic assessment practices in K-12 Montana schools.
5. Network and develop professional connections with health enhancement teachers from across the state to enhance and improve their delivery of instruction.
ASSIGNMENT
1) Documentation of attending a minimum of 10 sessions (signatures/stickers from session)
a. Can be given to Karie Orendorff at the end of the conference
b. Take a picture and it along with the assignments via email
2) REFLECTIONS: The participant will be asked to write a quick reflection of the 10 sessions attended
a. No more than one paragraph is needed but you are welcome to write more
b. Give a quick explanation and something you learned or re-learned from that session
3) NEW CONCEPTS PAPER: Describe how you could implement the new concepts learned (or re-learned) from attending the conference into your health enhancement curriculum. This is an overall paper (all 10 sessions), you do not need to do a paper for all 10 sessions.
a. Reference the name of the sessions and/or the presenters name of the concepts you may implement in your classes
b. Please tell me the grade level, name of school and name of class that you may implement these concepts in
c. Explain why it is important to you and how will your students benefit from the new concepts
d. Minimum of 2 pages
i. Double Spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman
ASSESSMENT
The final grade will be assessed:
1. Submission of attendance verification to at least 8 sessions.
2. Submission of reflections
3. Submission of New Concepts paper
DUE DATE
Final papers are due on or before NOON, Friday, August 7th unless previous arrangements have been made in writing with the instructor. Papers are to be submitted electronically to the instructor via email. However, if for some reason that is problematic, contact the instructor via email to make other arrangements.
