Description
Join us to learn about the current state of wildlife management and the science used to help conserve biodiversity and habitats, with a focus on the Western U.S. Specific topics include American bison; the bears of North America; species adaptations and ecological function; climate and wildlife; modern management interventions; and the application of technology.
Course Takeaways
- Participants will gain knowledge of the latest developments and emerging challenges in wildlife conservation.
- The information presented will enhance participants' understanding and basic knowledge of wildlife and wildlife management, thereby improving their appreciation for the natural world.
- The lectures will expose the audience to the many challenges facing wildlife in a rapidly changing world.
- Finally, the class will help people understand how modern wildlife science is addressing the challenges that conservation faces and how modern technology is helping to meet them.

Keith Aune
Keith Aune received his B.S. in wildlife biology at the University of Montana in 1977 and a master's in fish and wildlife management from Montana State University in 1981. Keith served with the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MFWP) research section for 31 years. He studied grizzly bears on the Rocky Mountain Front and Flathead for 12 years and Yellowstone bison for 10 years. He served as the Chief of Wildlife Research and directed multiple research projects across Montana until his retirement from MFWP. He then joined the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) as a conservation scientist in 2007 and worked on a Wildlife Corridors Initiative, the American Bison Society Initiative and advised the Wildlife Action Opportunities Fund. He was the chair of the IUCN Bison Specialist Group for North America from 2012 to 2017. In June 2017, he retired from WCS but continues to consult and served as a science consultant for a documentary film by Ken Burns on the American bison.| Date | Day | Time | Location |
