Description

The Baroque era in music saw a flourishing of virtuosity, origins of opera, extensive experimentation in instrumental writing, regional specificity and folk inspiration. The primary compositions of the era will be brought to life in the class through the larger cultural context of art, politics and everyday life in which the musicians of the day lived and worked. Classes will include a mix of lectures, recordings and live performances.

  • Familiarity with the defining characteristics, development and context of music during the Baroque era
  • Entertaining tales of the musicians and their works, making the music more relatable and applicable
  • Working knowledge of Monteverdi, Bach, Corelli, Vivaldi, Mozart and lesser-known composers of the 17th and 18th centuries.
  • Relationships with the working classical musicians and musical offerings of Gallatin Valley

Carrie Krause

Carrie Krause, violin, performs as concertmaster with the Bozeman Symphony and as leader and soloist with baroque ensembles nationwide. She is the founder and artistic director of Baroque Music Montana, presenting over 50 concerts a year across the region.
