Description

Seasonal change, or phenology, shapes the cycles of life on Earth. Humans have long marked the seasons by their influences on plants, animals and other natural features. In this class, we will explore the place of autumn in human culture and the fascinating stories of autumn in Montana's forests and mountains, from changing leaves to enormous flocks and herds to fat bears preparing for their winter sleep.

Cedar Mathers-Winn

Cedar Mathers-Winn is a naturalist, biologist and educator based in Bozeman. He earned his master's degree studying animal communication in southwestern Montana and studied ecology and animal behavior in mountain forests, tropical Australia and the Sonoran Desert. As an instructor, Cedar uses the everyday subtleties of nature to reveal worlds of wildness hidden in plain sight.
