Description

This course provides an overview of the geology of Montana and Yellowstone National Park. Topics include the geologic histories of Montana and Yellowstone Country, the evolution of the Upper Missouri River, the geology of hot springs in Montana and Yellowstone, and mine waste remediation on the Upper Clark Fork. The course is geared towards enthusiasts with minimal geological background. Each presentation is followed by time for questions and discussion.

Rob Thomas

Rob Thomas is a Regents Professor of Geology at the University of Montana Western. He received the national Carnegie/CASE Professor of the Year award in 2009 and is a fellow of the Geological Society of America. He has authored over 75 publications, including the second editions of "Roadside Geology of Yellowstone Country" (2011) and "Roadside Geology of Montana" (2020), which was awarded the 2021 High Plains Book Award.
