Description
Hear the fascinating story of Butte, the "Richest Hill on Earth" and America's "Gibraltar of Unionism." This talk will trace Butte's dynamic history from its 1864 origins as a ramshackle placer camp to its remarkable rise as the world's most significant mining center and its staggering decline in the 1980s.

Derek Strahn
Derek Strahn has an M.A. in history from MSU-Bozeman and teaches Advanced Placement U.S. History at Bozeman High School. He was the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History's Montana's Preserve America History Teacher of the Year in 2010.
