K-12 teachers and out-of-school educators can learn about a NASA program called Aerokats and Rovers Education Network (AREN), which introduces NASA technologies and practices in authentic, experiential learning environments. We use kite-based instruments to gather weather data and capture aerial photography. The goal of AREN is to train the next generation of scientists, engineers, and other professionals to observe and understand our planet Earth through experiential learning using NASA technology and data in real-world settings.
The program is hosted in Montana by Montana State University's National Teachers Enhancement Network.
In this free 90-minute workshop, you'll get an overview of the AREN program, and we will fly kites and use remote sensing equipment and talk about how the program might be used in your classroom.
Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes appropriate for outdoor conditions. Baseball caps and sunglasses are nice to have!
