MPIA is providing a private 3-day training by Zemax for OpticStudio for optical engineers and scientists.
Choose the days you want to attend with the easy per day pricing. The course includes an overview of the principles of optical design, hands-on experience so you can use your time more effectively, and examples to work through after class.
This course will focus on “Optical System Design Using OpticStudio” with the emphasis on “Using
OpticStudio.” We will cover the OpticStudio user interface, teach set up and optimization of simple sequential optical systems (singlet, doublet), demonstration of sequential analysis features such as ray fan, OPD plot, spot diagram, MTF, point spread function, encircled energy, image analysis, and more. You will also be introduced to Non-Sequential and Mixed Mode optical system design.
Day 1, August 19
• Introduce OpticStudio
• Modeling a Singlet Lens
• Analyzing Optical Systems
• Adding New Materials
• Analyzing Optical Systems
• Optimization
• Intro to Optimization –A Singlet Lens Example
• Sampling and Reference Points
• Merit Functions
• The Local Optimizer
• Default Merit Functions
• Operands
• Design Rules for Merit Functions
• Global Optimization
Day 2, August 20
• 3D Systems, Moving Parts, and Global Coordinate Systems
• Coordinate Breaks
• Scanning Mirrors and Folded Optical Systems
• Tolerancing Overview
• Tolerance Operands
• Compensators
• Tolerancing Procedure with OpticStudio
• Tolerancing a Singlet
• Polarization Ray Tracing & Thin-Film Coatings
• Optimizing with Coatings
Day 3, August 21
• Non-Sequential Ray Tracing in OpticStudio
• Source Objects
• Detector Objects
• SobolSampling
• Resolution v. Noise
• Modeling Complex Geometries
• Using Mixed Mode
• Converting Sequential Systems to Non-Sequential
• Non-Sequential Settings
• Troubleshooting Non-Sequential Mode
