Join Intermountain Opera Bozeman for a discussion and open rehearsal of The Montana Mikado at The Ellen Theatre. This brand-new and revolutionary adaptation turns Gilbert & Sullivan's classic English operetta into a modern-day satire of present-day Bozeman. Writer and director Soren Kisiel of Bozeman's Broad Comedy and Camp Equinox Summer Theater will offer his insights into the opera's creation before the singers and orchestra rehearse together for the first time.

P&P's are a collaborative program offered to OLLI at MSU and MSU Retiree Association members.

Michael Sakir

Conductor Michael Sakir has been praised for his artistic authority, fluidity of expression, and "great delicacy of feeling." He serves as Interim Artistic Director of Intermountain Opera Bozeman and Music Director of the Opera Company of Middlebury, Vermont. He recently completed his fourth and final season as Music Director of Opera Memphis. He was deeply involved in the company's groundbreaking civic practice programs, community partnerships, and commissioning projects. In the 2021-2022 season, Sakir conducts "The Barber of Seville" and "Le nozze di Figaro" with Intermountain Opera Bozeman and Tchaikovsky's rarely heard masterpiece "The Maid of Orleans" with the Opera Company of Middlebury. Sakir holds bachelor's degrees in piano performance and music history from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a graduate degree in orchestral conducting from The Boston Conservatory. He was a participant in the 2017 OPERA America Leadership Intensive. He is a native of Northern California.
