Spark fresh drafts and discover core ideas: we'll write in-session, share writings, and hear responses. Learn an organic method of writing, which helps you tap into the brilliance of your unconscious mind. We focus on the moment you first put words on the page, creating something out of nothing. The raw, unpolished work becomes a blueprint, and structure and fresh language emerge from the earliest lines. Writing takes shape almost magically! Open to all levels and genres: journals, fiction, poetry, essays, field notes, and experimental pieces.

Apply for a needs-based scholarship to take this offering.

Fee:  $40.00

Ilona Popper

Ilona Popper is a poet, freelancer, editor, and naturalist who coaches writers and has taught writing for forty-four years. She is the author of Break, and her poems have appeared in numerous publications. She has also performed her poems as theatre. In addition, Ilona writes articles and documentary film scripts about wildlife and nature. She lives with her husband on the edge of Yellowstone among all sorts of wild neighbors.

Participants will learn how to generate writing that is rich with possibility, starting from the blank page. Participants learn how to mine their own first drafts for gold and how to find the same in the writings of other students and authors. The course emphasizes close reading, creating a writing practice, and using writing as a way of discovering or thinking about something. The instructor, Ilona Popper, teaches her copyrighted method.
