Description

In Freshwater Ecosystems, you will learn about stream ecosystem habitats, food webs and communities. You will also learn about threats to these essential habitats and what we can do to conserve them. You will spend time in the field sampling and quantifying stream habitat for benthic macroinvertebrates, identifying macroinvertebrates and their roles within food webs and using macroinvertebrates to indicate water quality for monitoring purposes.

Space is limited to 20 people.

This program involves walking on varied terrain and/or stairs.

Benjamin Tumolo

Benjamin Tumolo is a freshwater scientist interested in understanding ecosystem processes and the biological communities of streams. He is a post-doctoral research scientist at the University of Wyoming, working on a project to understand the consequences of globally altered nutrient cycles. His experience ranges from the effects of invasive fish to tiny insect ecosystem engineers generating hotspots in riverbeds. He earned his Ph.D. in Ecology and Environmental Science from Montana State University.
