Description
Many people have heard of Cleopatra. However, most don't know Cleopatra was the final queen in a long line of powerful Ptolemaic queens, all of whom made Cleopatra's achievements possible. These preceding queens were some of the most politically active in the ancient world. They aligned their public actions with the religious beliefs of the period, presenting themselves as goddesses on earth. Culminating with the famous Cleopatra, this presentation will trace the line of these famous women to give an overview of Ptolemaic queenship and their unique place in history.

Tara Sewell-Lasater
Tara Sewell-Lasater earned her Ph.D. from the University of Houston. She has taught courses at various universities in Texas on ancient history for the last ten years. Her published works focus on Ptolemaic queenship and numismatics. Currently, she is the director of the First Year Seminar at Montana State University.
