This course will provide time to dig into the philosophical underpinnings that support moving from traditional grades towards standards-based grading. We will discuss benefits to learners, families and educators, and will also explore the types of curriculum documents that can be utilized when making this shift in assessment and grading practices. Through this course, you will be able collaboratively think through this big change that is becoming the norm in education.
Participants will learn these methods over five weeks. This course is eligible for an optional 10 OPI renewal units

Kate Solberg
Kate Solberg, a former MSSE graduate (2008), served as a classroom science teacher for twelve years at the secondary level. Kate is also employed by the West Fargo School District as a Curriculum Coordinator. In this role, Kate supports teachers in the curriculum writing process in order to ensure a guaranteed viable curriculum in twenty schools across the district. The district utilizes Standards Based Grading and proficiency scales in grades K-8. Kate provides support to science, art, music, and foreign language teachers.Kate loves to travel and has been in classrooms in Malaysia and in Nicaragua. In her spare time, she enjoys practicing Spanish, playing the violin, riding horses, and salsa dancing.
