Enjoy a behind-the-scenes conversation with Intermountain Opera Bozeman (IOB) artistic director and conductor Michael Sakir and stage director Brenna Corner, followed by an open "sitzprobe" rehearsal with singers and orchestra of IOB's spring opera Rigoletto. Verdi and Piave's tragic masterpiece tells the story of a hunchbacked jester fighting against the powers around him for the good of his family.

Participants will walk away with a deeper appreciation of the original Victor Hugo play that Rigoletto is based upon, as well as Verdi's unique sense of musical drama and compositional craftsmanship. You will also learn about background information and directorial concept behind IOB's production.

Preludes and Performances are a collaborative program offered to OLLI at MSU and MSU Retiree Association members.

Free for OLLI at MSU members. No advance registration or ticket are required.

He will also make his guest conducting debut conducting Albert Herring with his alma mater, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
